God's Work. Our Hands.

Health Ministry

The Health Ministry Team at St. Armands Key Lutheran Church (SAKLC) believes that the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being of the congregation and community is vital to our faith and is foundational to the strength of SAKLC.

Health programs and events are announced throughout the year. These include special health-related presentations, a weight loss group, flu vaccinations, annual health fair and CPR/AED Training.  Blood Pressure Screening is available in the Parish Nurse office at the church on the last Sunday of each month between services and available by appointment Monday – Thursday either at home or in the office.  We are always looking for new topics/programs, so if there is anything you are interested in, please let us know and we will find a way to bring it to SAKLC.

Look for the current and upcoming Health Ministry activities in events and announcements.

Parish Nurse

We are privileged as a church to have a Parish Nurse program.  A Parish nurse is a Registered Professional Nurse who serves as a member of the ministry staff of a faith community to promote health and wholeness of the congregation, its families and the individual members.  The nurse serves the faith community through the independent practice of nursing as defined by the Florida Nurse Practice Act.  The Parish Nurse responds to a special call from our Lord to minister to the holistic health and well-being of the mind, body, and spirit of the faith community.

The Parish Nurse Roles and Responsibilities are:
  • Collaborates with the pastoral team to provide Holistic Care to the Congregation by ministering to the Body, Mind and the Spirit of individuals and groups.
  • Provides education integrating faith and health.
  • Provides individual health counseling related to health maintenance, disease prevention and management.
  • Encourages individuals to avail themselves of services, which will enhance their overall wellbeing and encourages them to be more responsible for their health status.
  • Makes home and hospital visits as needed to provide health counseling, education and spiritual support.
  • Networks with appropriate resources in the community to provide referrals, services and educational programs.
  • Assists individuals and/or family members in making decisions regarding their health, medical services, treatments, and care facilities.
  • Maintains confidentiality
Parish Nurse Consultation

Our Parish Nurse is available Monday-Thursday for visitation/consultation in your home or her office. She can help with health related issues and prayer. If you are considering long term care planning, she can help with Advanced Directives and Living Wills. She can also help you consider Assisted Living or Continuing Care. There are many options here in Sarasota to choose from and it can be overwhelming to think about moving out of your home. However, it is always better to make a decision sooner rather than later. We have researched and visited many places in Sarasota and would love to help you make decisions that fit your situation. This also applies to rehab care following joint surgery or hospitalization. Just call 941-388-1234 for an appointment anytime Monday-Thursday or email parishnurse@saklc.com.

 Eucharistic Ministry

St. Armands Key Lutheran Church is privileged to have many retired ministers as well as a team of Eucharistic Ministers who are available to bring Holy Communion to anyone who would like this ministry and is unable to come to church. If you or someone you know would like visits, please call the church office at 941-388-1234.

“Is any one of you in trouble?  He should pray.
Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise.
Is any one of you sick?
He should call the elders of the church to pray over him
and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord.
And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well;
the Lord will raise him up.
If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray
for each other so that you may be healed.
The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.
Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain,
and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years.
Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops.”
James 5: 13-18
